We are a charity that has been established since 1965 and we estimate around 2000 children have passed through the playgroup doors in that time. We are now seeing our second generation of children coming through, in fact one of the nursery assistants used to attend the playgroup herself!
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which is based on the principles of learning through play. We aim to get to know and understand each child so we can make sure they have lots of fun while we support their development at the same time.
The activities change within our sessions all the time. This is the timetable of a session.
Children arrive at the playgroup, leave bags and belongings on the named footmat, then self register by finding their name block, say goodbye, free play.
9.30 Register Time
Children take part in an adult lead activity, sing our welcome song, then off for free flow play
Children choose what they want to do from the activities and the equipment available. We have child height storage so we can encourage the children to access the toys and resources independently. The children can play inside and outside throughout the whole session and we have a great outdoor space. We provide activities for all six areas of development according to the EYFS.
10.15 – 10.45 Snack Time
Snack time is a social time and learning opportunity where children are able to help themselves to a cup and plate, they pour their own drink and help themselves to a nutritionally balanced snack.
11.20 Tidy up time and circle time
We encourage children to tidy throughout the session, but this is where we all tidy up so we can come together as a group. We get together to share a discussion, a story and some songs.
11.30/12.00 Home time
Some children stay on for lunch and / or the afternoon session.
12.00 – 12.30 Lunch Club
Wash hands and eat a packed lunch together. We are joined by our Nursery friends who come to Playgroup for an afternoon session.
After lunch some children are full of energy and need to run around and some need some quiet time. So we have some real playtime outside with lots of strong physical development activities and games to play. It is a total contrast inside with a relaxed atmosphere with lots of cushions, stories or soft music for those children who need some quiet time or rest.
1.00 – 3.00 Free Flow Session, we have another free flow session as in the morning.
2.00 Afternoon snack
